The 3rd Annual Tournament of Sand Sculpture Champions, Competition May 07-11, 2008.
The Harrison Hot Springs Sand Sculpture Society invited former World Champions and multiple-medal winners from the past eighteen years of the World Championships of Sand Sculpture to compete as Doubles in the 3rd Annual Tournament of Sand Sculpture Champions. These proven winners submitted their designs for pre-formed blocks of sand in April and the Society had them ready to carve when they arrived in Harrison Hot Springs on May 7th. All entries start carving from the top down over the next thirty-six hours of competition. They worked eight-hour days on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday and finished at noon on Mothers’ Day.
Every visitor, attending the event between May 8th and June 30th, 2008, will receive a ballot to choose their favourite sculpture. The winner will receive $3000. Second and Third Place will receive $2500 and $2000 respectively. Winners will be announced on Canada Day, July 1st, 2008. The finished display will be open daily until at least October 19, 2008.
This is an absolutely unique World Event that you won’t want to miss.
Adult admission is $6.00 with accompanied kids (5-13) only $3.00. Accompanied kids under five are FREE. Most of the merchants in Harrison Hot Springs will carry a supply of “Sand Bucks”. Visit them before you come out to the beach and receive a dollar off each person’s entry. Visitors will also receive a discount coupon towards their return to the World Championships in September.
